The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.
These paintings were inspired by Franz Kafka’s book The Metamorphosis, capturing the themes of transformation and isolation. Listening to the audiobook, I felt deeply immersed in Gregor Samsa’s experience, attempting to recapture the emotions, thoughts, and impressions that emerged as I engaged with his story. Through textures, shadows, and fragmented forms, I strive to convey the sense of isolation and disorientation that permeates Gregor’s world.
In my mind, I can almost hear the sounds of footsteps on the stairs, the knocks, and the distant echoes – imagining how Gregor might have felt: alone in his room, vulnerable and confused, as his body breaks apart and his world shatters. The sights, the smell, the dim light filtering through the window and the door frame, and even the fragile, yellowed pages of the book itself guide my artwork, inviting viewers to feel Gregor’s profound fear and uncertainty as he undergoes his unknown transformation.
